The President recently signed into law the ADA Amendments Act (ADAAA), which will substantially expand the Americans With Disabilities Act. The ADAAA goes into effect January 1, 2009, and will create significant new responsibilities for HR officers and managers in financial institutions—so now is the time to start getting ready to comply with this important new law.
Join Preparing for the Americans With Disabilities Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA) and get insightful information on the changes and how they will impact the way you handle requests for accommodation and leaves of absence for medical reasons, as well as which employees are covered under the Act.
Our labor and employment expert will cover:
- The newly-expanded definition of what constitutes a “disability” covered under the ADA, including what it means to be “substantially limited” in a “major life activity,” and what activities meet the statutory definition
- Whether an employer can consider a “mitigating measure” (e.g., glasses or medication) when assessing whether an employee is disabled
- An employer's obligations with respect to an employee with an episodic medical impairment
- When an employer can be considered to “regard” an employee as disabled, potentially giving rise to liability under the ADA
- How the amendments affect the reasonable accommodation process
- Compliance changes employees should be considering before the ADAAA takes effect in January
- And much more!
The program includes a 30-minute Q&A session following each session. Listen in and get the chance to ask your specific questions!
