About This Audio Conference:

For US banks it is no longer a question of if – but rather when – the US replaces GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) with IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).

Outside of the US, the world is already using or set to use “IFRS”, so it is imperative that your institution become familiar preparing IFRS accounts. IFRS opens your institution to financial markets throughout the world.

The International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) will release in 2009 a new “simplified” set of standards specifically designed for private institutions. This set of standards will allow you to prepare your accounts under IFRS without the burden of using the full version of IFRS. Your institution will have the possibility to switch from complex GAAP rules to a friendlier set of IFRS designed to accommodate the specific needs of private companies.

About Our Speakers

Markus K. Veith is a Partner and leads the Financial Institutions Practice of the New York Office.  He is a member of the firm’s financial institutions steering committee. He brings to the firm over twenty years of experience in Banking and Public Accounting-being his career in Germany with a one of Germany’s top 5 banks. Markus has worked with banks, broker/dealer, REITs, finance and investment companies.  He works on SEC engagements and has also assisted with several international engagements and is involved with IFRS audits, reviews and conversions.

Marco Marcellan is a director with RSM McGladrey based in Chicago, Illinois. In May 2008 he joined the firm’s International Assurance Services Group as lead IFRS specialist.  Mr. Marcellan served as global IFRS technical senior manager at the RSM International Executive Office in London, UK. This position created within RSM International was for the purpose of implementing the strategic guidelines of the RSM International IFRS Executive Committee.
